Surgical Procedure
A mastoidectomy is performed and the posterior semicircular canal is exposed. A small opening is created in the canal allowing the canal to be plugged with fibrous tissue. The plug stops the flow of fluid in the canal alleviating the symptoms from otoliths trapped within the semicircular canal (the cause of the disorder).
