Surgical Procedure
In addition to removal of the mastoid bone, the external auditory canal is removed leaving a cavity in the ear. The opening of the ear canal (the acoustic meatus) must be enlarged to allow proper air flow and cleaning of the area. The procedure requires avoidance of water in the future and is used infrequently at CEI.
