Surgical Procedure: The BAHA System
Indications for Surgery: Conductive hearing loss with no other
surgical option, Sensorineural hearing loss with intolerance of hearing devices,
unilateral deafness
Anesthesia: local
Surgical Time: 30 minutes
Hospital Admission: no
Surgical Procedure: A titanium post is inserted in the bone
of the skull behind and above the ear. After a 2 month healing phase, a sound
processor is attached to the post allowing transmission of hearing directly
to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum and middle ear structures.
